“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion which will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:38-48

“Anxious and troubled about many things.” If I were to write an autobiography, that phrase would be in the running for its title. Probably a finalist, even..

Kevin DeYoung is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Other books I love by him include: The Hole in Our Holiness and Just Do Something.

My biggest takeaway from Crazy Busy is how vitally important it is for us to endeavor to spend more time just sitting at the feet of Jesus.

I was about to share how hard this is because of all the things I tell myself I need or should make more time for: exercise, meal prep and other adulting, the always growing list of books to read, writing, planning for the future, not to mention my actual day job and serving at church.

Then I realized that the one thing that Jesus says is necessary when he is speaking to Martha (insert Hilary) is actually the easiest command to follow. He is literally saying just sit here and rest for awhile. He is asking us to stop what we are doing and just dwell in His presence. How refreshing!

There is kingdom work to be done and it can be hard and wearisome, but the Creator of the universe took a day to rest, not because He needed it, but because He knew we would.

“It’s not wrong to be tired. It’s not wrong to feel overwhelmed  it’s not wrong to go through seasons of compete chaos. What is wrong - and heartbreakingly foolish and wonderfully avoidable - is to live a life with more craziness than we want because we have less Jesus than we need.”
